Chiang Mai Conference 2013

Chiang Mai Conference 2013 was held from July 4 to 6 at Chiang Mai University, Thailand.

  • Day 1 (Thursday, July 4): Welcome reception was held at night safari park hosted by Chiang Mai University. We observed closely the life of tropical nocturnal animals.
  • Day 2 (Friday, July 5): Following the keynote speech, reports on CSR-Case Writing and Joint Research Project-7 Asia Business Accreditation System Model were given. Active discussions were made among 50 participants including deans of business schools in Asia. Keynote speech was given by Dr. Sooksan Kantabutra of Mahidol University on “Philosophy of Sufficiency and Its Implications on Management Education”, which introduced the Sufficiency Economy concept, referred to in the message of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. As for Fuji Xerox CSR-Case Writing, research results were presented by the country representatives, Dr. Yuji Maeda (Kwansei Gakuin University) of Japan, Dr. Azlan Amran (Universiti Sains Malaysia) of Malaysia, Warat Winit (Chiang Mai University) of Thailand, and Dr. Arief Daryanto (Bogor Agricultural University) of Indonesia. Presentation on Joint Research Project-7 was given by President Itoh with detailed explanation on Asia Business Accreditation System Model. The presentation was followed by the discussion and the group reports. The issues raised will be discussed by the committee by way of preparation for partial amendment of Accreditation Outline scheduled in 2014.
  • Day 3 (Saturday, July 6): We attended the Witness Suthep Hill Trekking departure ceremony on the campus at 7:00 a.m., seeing off the new students wearing their departments’ colors.

Bandung Conference 2012

The Conference was held on July 11, 2012 at Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers, Indonesia, supported by Istitut Teknologi Bandung and Universitas Padjadjaran. The Conference was also joined by the participants of AFEBI which was held on July 9, and the Conference became a major meeting. Presentations and reports were provided by Professor Ruslan Prijadi on ABEST21 Accreditation System, by Professor Ming Yu Cheng on Joint Research Project-6 (Development of Case Writing) and by ABEST21 President Itoh on Joint Research Project-7 (Research on Quality Insurance System of Management Education of Business Schools in Asia). School presentation session included explanations on MBA programs at Universiti Malaya, a new member of ABEST21, and Indonesian business schools.

Kuala Lumpur Conference 2011

ABEST21 Conference in Kuala Lumpur was held on July 8 and 9, 2011, with the support of the Management & Science University and International Islamic University Malaysia. The Conference was attended by more than 250 students of the Management & Science University. In the first part of the Conference, keynote speeches on the theme of nurturing global human resources were given by Koukichi Takabayashi, General Manager, HR Division ASIA HR Group, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. on ”Global Talent Management in Nissan”; by Narihiko Uemura, Managing Director, Sony Electronics Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. on ”Diversified and Globalized: the talent challenges facing Sony”; and by Tn Hj Abd Rani Lebai Jaafar, CEO, RHB Islamic Bank Berhad on ”Global Talent Management in RHB”. In the second part of the Conference, Professor Ming Yu Cheng, the Chair of the Project, made presentation on the survey results of ABEST21 Research Project-5 “Development of MBA Programs”. The survey results will be published in November. In the third part of the Conference member schools made their presentations on the development of management education programs.

Singapore Conference 2010

On July 2 and 3, 2010, final presentations on management competencies survey were given at the Conference held at S.P. Jain Center of Management in Singapore. The Conference was co-sponsored by Aoyama Gakuin University, Nanzan University, Kwansei Gakuin University and SP Jain Center of Management, Singapore, and supported by ABEST21. It was held within the framework of the Collaboration Program “Sharing Quality of Management Education and Development of Mutual Assessment System”, under the “Program for the Support of Strategic University Collaboration towards University Education Enhancement 2009” by MEXT.
The survey on management competencies was done with the participation of 13 business schools from 8 Asian countries. At the beginning of the sessions, analysis on the general survey results was reported by Professor Hiroe Tsubaki, Vice General Director, The Institute of Statistical Mathematics Research Organization of Information and System, an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation of Japan, which analyzed the survey results. Then each school made a 45-minute final presentation followed by Q&A sessions. Professor Hideaki Izumi of Kwansei Gakuin University represented the three Japanese schools. Participants also included Ms. Yasuko Okuda, General Manager, Regional Administration, Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., and Mr. Yoshihiko Kanazawa, Manager, Learning & Development, Human Resources, International Business Group Fuji Xerox Asia Pacific Pte Ltd., who provided valuable comments on the school’s presentations on the management competencies required in industry-academia collaboration in Asia in the 21st century. Mr. Kanazawa also exchanged a talk with Dean A. Seetharaman of SP Jain Center of Management on the last day of the Conference on management competencies required in Asia.
