1. The Peer Review Results

Overall, this report covers most of the key areas required for the Self Evaluation Report (SER) requirements.
Based on the report:

  • The School should continuously obtain additional views from other stakeholders such as industry advisors (if any) and academic advisors (if any).
  • Mission statements are up-to-date and published in the website and other relevant publications/materials.
  • The mapping of the School’s mission statement with the university’s and faculty’s mission is shown on page 41 of the SER. It clearly shows that the School’s mission statement is relevant.
  • The School has a strong financial status and cash flow to sustain its mission statements.
  • The School adopts the OHEC’s standards and FNHEQ learning outcomes which are consistent with educational accreditation and quality assurance standards.
  • Various mechanisms are in place to provide academic assistance to students such as orientation, academic-advisor systems, sibling code system and relevant departments.
  • The program’s educational goals are sound and designed systematically to cater its mission statement.
  • Students’ profile, admission, support and incentive are in accordance with the University’s policy.
  • There is lack of international students and faculty members in the School. Efforts should be intensified for international students’ and faculty recruitment to reflect a more diversify and global students and workforce composition.
  • The School should continuously improve both its educational and infrastructure support.
  • The School should recruit more faculty members and international staff as well.

With these reviews combined, we conclude our evaluation as follows.
“The Program’s educational and research activities generally satisfy accreditation standards. The Program’s Quality Improvement plans are good and quality maintenance and prospects for the improvement of education and research are promising.”

2. The Period of Quality Assurance

Accreditation commences from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2021 for a five-year period.

3. Good Practices in Management Education

Uniqueness:
The school offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate business degree programs that promote intellectual inquiry and independent thought.
Master of Accountancy (M. Acc.)
The Master of Accountancy program strives to push the students to be proficient in all areas of accounting and to be ready to step into the position of Accounting and Finance Executive. It intends to increase accounting potentials to its learners and prepare them for being promoted to executive positions in both government and private organizations. The program is also committed to enable them to think creatively and make use of accounting database together with new innovation for the ultimate benefits of a certain organization. Students shall be trained to lead their organization to be ready for and able to cope with recent competitions, especially among AEC member countries as well as the global competition, effectively. The program offers students a well thought out curriculum that allows students to learn from the rich experiences of professors, scholars, accountants, and auditors whose expertise is widely accepted in an international level.
Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.)
Master of Business Administration is designed to serve those who have started working in business organizations and seek further self-development on business administration skills as well as for those who have started exploring the path to push themselves forward to the new generation of entrepreneur with full management potentials and capacities in coping with all changes in the world of business. The program strives to enable students to understand and make use of integrated business management concepts. It also uses multiple methods to encourage learning of business solutions through case studies of global leading companies as well as learning of business administration from successful businesspersons and academic scholars.
The Master of Business Administration program strives to equip the students with solid knowledge and skills on business administration and strengthen their entrepreneurship to cope with rapid changes of economic circumstances. The graduates of our program must be full of moralities, ethics, knowledge and academic competency.
In an academic approach, the program endeavors to strengthen academic contents both in widening and deepening dimensions. The program is amended to respond to the rapid changes of environment, strengthen theoretical and practical knowledge, and serve the various needs of the learners. In addition, ethical and moral principles of business administrator shall be emphasized in all courses.
Master of Business Administration (Executive M.B.A.)
The Master of Business Administration: Executive M.B.A. aims at creating CEO’s with analytical views and advanced strategies in a practical sense to link and improve business groups into business clusters for a world-class standing with a broad vision for international competitiveness with a virtuous and ethical mind moving the organizations and society forward to peace and on-going development.
Master of Business Administration (Marketing) (M.B.A. Marketing)
The Master of Business Administration (Marketing) program offers students the ability to increase knowledge and skills in the marketing field. The program will initiate students to think creatively and enable them to apply new technologies for their works, work well with others, and be responsible for themselves and society with virtue and ethics. Our students will be encouraged to integrate the marketing approach to all business functions as well as strengthen marketing analytical skills to create better marketing strategies, increase brand value to be more worthy than those of competitors, and sustainably maintain competitive advantage
Good Practices:

The School has extensive and systematic exercise on curriculum development in place to realize its mission statement.

4. Matters to be noted

  1. It is observed that the number of academic staff taken into calculation in the report should be more. The Dean’s presentation was clear and gave more information about the number of academic staff members. It will be enough for running the MBA classes. The School has provided the numbers for the student intake and class size in 2014 and 2015.There were 252 and 213 students enrolled for 2014 and 2015 respectively. Average class size is 35 to 40. Hiring part- time TA and RA, research grants and financial assistance are adequate for faculty members.
  2. The School’s vision concerns the global platform. The School did set some program or activity for international forum such as international conference etc. At this moment, there is a strategy to introduce some incentives such as scholarship to attract ASEAN students to study in CMU, send students to ASEAN countries, and provide internships.
  3. The university pays attention to the issue of diversity in terms of ethnic, gender and nationality composition. The process of the revision of mission statements was clearly explained during the presentation. It was also explained that the changes made will not affect the direction and strategies of the School.
  4. As the School does not have any MBA classes conducted in English, there is lack of international students and staff. Thus the School needs to have a plan on how to globalize the management education such as international students and staff recruitment as well as organizing international student exchange program. At the moment, there is no plan to offer any masters’ programs in English. However, there are incentives in place for courses to be conducted in English. There are also some specially-arranged courses in English for exchange students. Currently there are no international students. Students are given various incentives for their performance and are sponsored to attend and present papers in the conferences.
  5. The School has a result of quality assurance assessment published by MOE on the faculty’s website. Information was provided during the presentation. The recruitment process and challenges were discussed during the presentation by the Dean. There are adequate communication channels available for students and lecturers to facilitate interaction.
  6. The School should set the learning outcomes for MBA programs to develop three abilities: ability to appreciate diversity, ability to communicate and ability to apply professional skills. The School should set the strategy for globalizing its education such as recruiting students from foreign countries, introducing a double degree program with a school in another country, introducing an English program, etc. The School should also focus on promoting research publications by the academic staff.
