Maintenance Accreditation Seminar 2013

On Thursday, 21st November 2013, AQA Seminar on 2013 Maintenance Accreditation was held at Minami Aoyama Kaikan. The approach to analysis for maintenance accreditation, which renews the accreditation period effective April 2015, was explained to the schools accredited in March 2010 (2009 academic year). The guidance focused on the preparation of Progress Report which analyzes the extent of improvement in educational quality in the past five years since the initial accreditation.

Tokyo Accreditation Seminar 2013

On 17th May 2013, Maintenance Accreditation Seminar was held at Minami Aoyama Kaikan with Professor Hiroshi Takamori (Chair, Peer Review Team). Quality assurance period for accreditation in Japan is five years. The schools initially accredited in 2009 are required to obtain accreditation stipulated by the School Education Act by 2014. The Seminar was held to explain about maintenance accreditation to those schools. In maintenance accreditation, the schools are expected to provide better quality of education compared to the level achieved at the initial accreditation, because in the past five years, kaizen issues should have been solved to enhance the quality of education. ABEST21 decided to request the applicant schools to prepare the Maintenance Report in English, so that it could be examined by an international Peer Review Team. The level and method of maintenance accreditation will be the key for international development of the Japanese accreditation institution.

Malaysia Accreditation Seminar 2013

On 20th May 2013, the Seminar was held at Management and Science University (MSU), MSU City Campus, MSU Learning Centre, Malaysia, for the schools applying for accreditation in 2013. The submission deadline for Accreditation Plan and Self-Evaluation Report is June 30. The Seminar called for a final check on the reports one month before the final submission date. The Seminar was attended by 26 participants from 10 schools, from Indonesia, Russia, and Malaysia. After opening remarks by Dr. Fumio Itoh, ABEST21 President, coaching for applicants was given on the following accreditation issues.

The seminar was followed by Q & A session. The closing remarks were given by Dr. Ming Yu Cheng, Professor, Faculty of Accounting and Management, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia.

ABEST21-AFEBI Joint Accreditation Seminar 2013

On 31st January 2013, at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in Bandung, Indonesia, a joint Accreditation Seminar was held co-sponsored by AFEBI (ASOSIASI FAKULTAS EKONOMI DAN BISNIS INDONESIA) and ABEST21 Indonesia Committee. Chaired by AFEBI General Secretary and UNPAD Vice Dean Popy Rufaidah, the Indonesia Committee Chair, Dean Sudarsono Kaderi Wiryono (Institute Teknologi Bandung) provided detailed explanation on ABEST21 Accreditation system and process. President Itoh also explained about the objectives of accreditation, the significance of Self-Evaluation, and various issues concerning enhancement of management education and accreditation, based on actual cases. Views on accreditation issues were exchanged actively with the AFEBI members. Their interests toward international accreditation were raised.

UPM Accreditation Seminar 2013

On 30th January 2013, ABEST21 Accreditation Seminar was held at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) located in Putrajaya. Details of ABEST21 Accreditation were explained by the Malaysia Committee Chair, Dean Ali Khatibi (Management and Science University) and the Accreditation system was explained by Executive Secretary Dr. Ming Yu Cheng (Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman). Then President Itoh explained about some details of the assessment item analysis which became an issue in the past. This was followed by an active Q&A session focusing on specific items. The seminar was attended by many participants, including the Deans of business schools at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

The 2nd Maintenance Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 10th December 2012 at Minami-Aoyama Kaikan, the 2nd orientation for Maintenance Business Accreditation covering the 5 years starting April 2014 was held. Maintenance Business Accreditation applies to the schools who were accredited in March 2009 for the 5-year period. The orientation was held for the business schools to continue with the assurance effective April 2014.
In order to promote internationalization of the business school accreditation and also to proactively disseminate to the world the process and results of the educational quality assurance for the applicant schools, we decided to have the “Progress Report” prepared in English. In this way, review by the PRT will be internationalized. We aim to publicize the MBA programs of the applicant schools globally.

The 1st Maintenance Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 1st June 2012, the first Maintenance Business Accreditation Seminar was held at Minami-Aoyama Kaikan. ABEST21 Initial Accreditation result is valid for 5 years. In March 2009, ABEST21 accredited the 4 business schools for the period from April 2009 to March 2014. To validate the accreditation in and after April 2014, the 4 schools applied for Maintenance Accreditation, which is the stage after Initial Accreditation. In Maintenance Accreditation, we intend to publicize to the world that the educational quality at these applicant schools is assured, to promote globalization of accreditation activities. For this purpose, the business schools applying for Maintenance Accreditation are asked to prepare their Self-Evaluation Report in English. PRT will also consist of international members so as to publicize the educational programs globally.

IIUM Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 17th April 2012, orientation on Accreditation Plan was held at International Islamic University Malaysia, located at Gombak, a suburb of Kuala Lumpur. Guidance on Self-Check/Self-Evaluation method using 18 Common Standards of ABEST21 Accreditation Standards was provided to Director Mohd Ismail bin sayyed Ahmad and the accreditation task team. It was emphasized that in order to enhance the quality of education it is important to clarify the mission statement and to set strategies to realize the mission.

UUM Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 16th April 2012, we visited Othman Yeop Abdullah Graduate School of Business, Universiti Utara Malaysia, located at Sintok, Kedah State which is near the border with Thailand. Approximately 1,300 students are enrolled in the school’s MBA program. The system and process of ABEST21 Business Accreditation were explained to the faculty members of the accreditation team led by Dean Prof. Dr. Noor Azizi Ismail, followed by exchange of opinions.

USM Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 3rd February 2012, ABEST21 accreditation orientation was given at the Graduate School of Business, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia. Details of accreditation system and process were explained to the School's accreditation Task Team faculty members led by Dean HASNAH Haron (second from the left in the picture) followed by Q&A session. Educational programs within the scope of accreditation were discussed, where we faced the same issue as in Indonesian schools. It was decided that reviewing process will target MBA program to start with.

UNPAD Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 7th January 2012, ABEST21 Business Accreditation Seminar was held at Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran, located in Bandung City of West Java, Indonesia. In the Seminar, we presented ABEST21 Mission and Accreditation System to UNPAD’ s faculty members and discussed the issues of how to define the scope of accreditation in Faculty of Economics and Business. Then we discussed the approach to defining the scope of accreditation with UNPAD.

UI Accreditation Seminar 2012

On 8th January 2012, Accreditation Seminar for master’s program in management at Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia in Jakarta, was held at Hotel Nikko Jakarta. The guidance emphasized that setting of clear Mission Statement is necessary to enhance the quality of education, and strategic planning to realize the goal is indispensable. The Seminar stressed the importance of assessment of PDCA cycle: (Plan) - plan strategies to implement the mission statement, (Do) - conduct self-evaluation using criteria designed to aim at enhancement of education quality based on the strategy, (Check) - spot kaizen issues and discuss solutions, and (Act) - practice measures to solve the problems.
